NEET & Out-of-School Young People's Breakfast Club – Coventry

Helping teenagers and the adults supporting them understand challenges together.

The Autism & ADHD Advocates CIC is introducing a specialist Breakfast Club for teenagers who are struggling with school attendance, are home educated or are not currently in education, employment or training (NEET).

Held at Stoke Heath Community Centre in Coventry, this relaxed session gives teenagers the opportunity to attend alongside a parent, carer or support worker to explore the difficulties they may be experiencing.

Understanding challenges together

Many teenagers struggle with anxiety, school attendance, emotional regulation, demands, motivation or everyday situations without fully understanding why.

Parents and those supporting them can also find it difficult to understand what's happening or know how best to help.

This session brings both together to learn, ask questions and develop that understanding.

Sarah-Jane McGarry, founder of The Autism & ADHD Advocates CIC and Neurodiversity and Executive Function Specialist, will be available to speak with teenagers and their accompanying adults.

Conversations can explore:

  • Autism, ADHD and neurodivergence

  • Executive functioning – working memory, inhibitory control and flexible thinking

  • Anxiety and school attendance difficulties

  • Sensory processing and emotional regulation

  • Understanding emotions and alexithymia

  • Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)

  • Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Everyday challenges, confidence and independence

The aim is to help teenagers better understand their own experiences while enabling parents, carers and support workers to understand those challenges from the teenager's perspective.

Together, they can explore practical strategies that may help at home, in education and in everyday life.

A relaxed and supportive environment

There are no formal presentations or expectations to share personal experiences.

Teenagers and their accompanying adults can enjoy breakfast, ask questions, take part in informal discussions and connect with others experiencing similar challenges.

There will also be opportunities for teenagers to socialise and build friendships in a comfortable, welcoming setting.

Who can attend?

This session is specifically for teenagers, including those who:

  • Are struggling to attend school or are currently out of school.

  • Are home educated.

  • Are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).

  • Are experiencing challenges associated with neurodivergence, anxiety or executive functioning.

Each teenager should attend with a parent, carer or support worker.
