SEN Parent Session: Understanding Your Sensory System – Online Support

SEN Parent Session: Understanding Your Sensory System

This free online session is for parents and carers of children and young people with SEN, autism or ADHD who would like to better understand sensory processing and how it can affect everyday life.

Children can respond very differently to sounds, touch, movement, clothing, food, busy places, personal care and changes in their environment. These sensory differences can sometimes be seen as behaviour, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, refusal or difficulty coping.

During this session, we will explore how the sensory system works, why some children seek sensory input while others avoid it, and how sensory needs can affect behaviour, emotions, attention and daily routines.

Parents and carers will gain practical ideas to help them recognise sensory needs and support their child at home, in school and out in the community.

This session is suitable for parents and carers of children and young people with SEN, including those who are autistic, have ADHD, are awaiting assessment or where families are beginning to explore their child’s needs.
