Understanding Sensory Difficulties in Children (0–10 Years) - 10th July - 9.15 - 11.15 AM
Many children show sensory differences long before anyone realises what they are.
This session is designed to help parents understand how children interact with the world through their sensory system and how sensory processing difficulties can impact behaviour, emotions, learning, eating, sleep, movement, attention, and daily life.
Parents are often picking up important clues without realising it.
For example:
difficulty learning to feed themselves
constantly crashing, climbing, or seeking movement
sensitivity to noise, clothing, smells, or textures
difficulty sitting still or focusing
meltdowns in busy environments
avoiding messy play
chewing, fidgeting, or sensory seeking behaviours
emotional overwhelm after school
We will explore how the brain processes sensory information and how differences in sensory processing can affect children both at home and in school.
This SEN-focused parent session will also help families understand:
sensory seeking and sensory avoiding behaviours
proprioception, vestibular, and interoception difficulties
why some children become overwhelmed so easily
how sensory difficulties are often misunderstood as “bad behaviour”
practical ways to support regulation and reduce overwhelm
The aim of this session is to help parents recognise sensory differences early, understand what they may be seeing, and feel more confident supporting their child’s needs.
